HOMEOWNERS ARE TURNING TO IN-GROUND FIBERGLASS POOLS

Over 60% of the Fiberglass pool industry’s sales are to homeowners who are installing a new pool for the second or third time. Many have owned gunite and vinyl pools before, and have experienced the commonly known problems. “We just want a Fiberglass pool, it makes so much sense,” is a comment that we hear all the time.

"Why not get it right the first time? If you are shopping for your first pool, avoid the costly mistake that many consumers have experienced; specifically spending a lot of money on a concrete (gunite) pool. Why buy a concrete pool and then go through the additional expense of a Fiberglass resurface?"

Why Fiberglass Is A Better Product

BENEFITS OF FIBERGLASS

  • Speed of Installation: Your Fiberglass swimming pool comes direct from the manufacturing facility – pre-made and ready to install. You can be swimming in your new pool in as little as four days! A concrete pool installation will disrupt your backyard for several months during construction.

  • Color and Lighting: The color of the water is so important and only Cassella Design & Build offers exclusive high definition gelcoat color finishes. We also offer the same high quality pools in traditional white.

Additional LED lighting will accent the high definition finish, giving your pool that glamorous look, long after the sun sets.

  • Smooth Finish: Cassella Design & Build offers Fiberglass swimming pools that have a smooth clean gel coat finish that is non-abrasive – there are no sharp edges or rough finishes. Some pebble pools are abrasive enough that they can damage your skin.

  • The Right Choice: Sometimes your vision doesn’t translate to the pool builder. With Cassella Design & Build, what you see is what you get – the swimming pool styles and sizes come off molds and cannot vary in any way.

  • Superlative Strength: Cassella Design & Build offers Fiberglass pools that exceed standards for shell thickness. The high tensile strength of Fiberglass will allow the pool shell to flex without cracking to accommodate earth movement.

  • Compatibility: Chlorine, mineral systems, salt chlorination and chemical free ionization systems all work well with Fiberglass swimming pools.

We provide you with the education to understand the pros and cons of each method of pool water sanitation. We advise each customer as to the sanitation system that will work best for their environment and needs. Due to each person’s individual and environmental landscape, what may be right for one person may not work well for another.

  • Maintenance Free: Fiberglass gel coat finishes look great and are unusually maintenance free. The surface is smooth and nonporous, thus more resistant to the formation of algae. Algae cannot pit and take root on a smooth surface.

Fiberglass pools are also stain-resistant provided the pH of the pool remains in its normal range (7.2 to 7.6). Minimal Chemical Usage

No one likes swimming in a chemical cocktail, but some pools require constant monitoring and expensive chemical upkeep. Not so with Fiberglass pools. The surface of a Fiberglass pool is chemically inert so there is nothing on the pool surface that can alter the water chemistry. As a result, you have minimal chemical usage, increased cost savings, and less impact on the environment. Fiberglass pools are truly the “green” way to go.

Cassella Design & Build can also offer you the environmentally friendly CL Free Ultra system which is a safe and friendly alternative to chemicals to sanitize your pool.

  • Warranty: When comparing various pool types and manufacturers, make sure you compare “apples to apples.” Pool types differ in their construction and the process by which they are manufactured. If you are comparing product lines, ask what type of warranty is included and who is standing behind the warranty. Fiberglass pools have a lifetime warranty for their structure and 15 to 20 years for the surface warranty depending on the product line chosen. You will find these to be industry standards.

Dispelling the Myth

The most common myth surrounding Fiberglass pools and promoted by competitors in gunite pools or vinyl-liner pools is that Fiberglass pools pop or float out of the ground. Ask the salesperson how a pool with 80 tons of water in it pops out of the ground?

"The reality is that a Fiberglass pool is no more likely to pop or float than a gunite or vinyl-liner pool. In fact, any watertight object will float if there is more water under it than in it. Pools can only float when they are drained and the water under the pool exerts upward pressure because there is no water in the pool."

Why would you need to drain a pool? Gunite pools need frequent draining to remove cracks, for an acid wash, to clean stains and to re-plaster the pool. Similarly, vinyl-liner pools must be drained to repair or replace liners. Fiberglass pools carry a lifetime warranty and never need resurfacing so there is no need to drain the pool. The end result is that more gunite and vinyl pools float – don’t be fooled!

Anyone concerned with water under the pool should consult their pool dealer and have a simple drain installed so that water under the pool can be monitored and drained if necessary.

There is a wide selection of solutions so there should never be any damage to any pool as a result of high water levels under the pool.

Pet Friendly Pools

In recent years, a pet-friendly pool trend has emerged and the needs of pets have become an important consideration when planning pool projects. Adding special features to the pool, like tanning shelves where the water is only few inches deep, create a comfortable pool experience for dogs by providing a place to lay and stay cool when not swimming! Other add-on features for dogs include ramps that attach to the side of the pool for accessibility and large umbrellas built into the concrete for shading! A backyard living environment that includes a pool not only brings the family together keeping the kids at home with their friends, but also keeps your dogs included too!

Below are common questions regarding pools and dogs. If you have a question not addressed below, please contact us for assistance.

What is the best type of pool for my dog?

Vinyl-liner pools are out of the question for dog owners. For obvious reasons, the liner can tear or get small punctures, which then can lead to major leaking issues and headaches. On the other hand, Fiberglass and concrete pools are almost never going to be damaged by dogs and are usually the right choice, depending on the needs of the homeowner. Also keep in mind that an appropriately sized set of steps is important for entry/exit points. Fiberglass pools are not abrasive like concrete pools, so dogs can brush up against the sides of the pool and swim onto the swim outs without danger of pool abrasions.

What chemical choices are safe for my dog?

We recommend CL Free Ultra pool systems. This pool water purification/ionization system is the top of the line choice that provides you the healthiest way of treating a swimming pool with no chlorine, salt, minerals, or harmful chemicals.

Remember, our furry friends use their tongues as a shower and clean themselves accordingly. You wouldn’t want your dog ingesting caustic chemicals or to have his or her paw pads damaged from corrosive salt and chlorine which can dry out their pads and cause them to be irritated and to crack. Remember, your dog is a member of the family and trips to the vet are expensive!

CL Free Ultra pool systems keep your pool water so clean you could drink 8 gallons a day before feeling any effects. It’s safe to say, the average human is incapable of consuming 8 gallons of water in a 24-hour period and your dog is the same. Peroxide is also a very healthy choice as this product works well with humans with many health benefits. This is also true for Pristine Blue, another non-chlorine sanitizer.

What Filter System Should I Use?

A dog in your pool is like having 25 people in the pool. Dander, hair and bacteria, all get into the pool when our lovable pets go for a swim. Knowing that, you should treat your pool water accordingly.

Eco-Friendly Pools

Due to the non-porous finish of our pools, fewer chemicals are needed because algae is less prone to attach to smoother surfaces.

Additionally, less cleaning will have to be performed using automatic pool cleaners saving electricity.

When automatic pool cleaners are used, the time it takes to clean the pool will be reduced saving additional energy.

As Fiberglass pools do not rely on steel panels or steel mesh/rebar for structure, they do not have the potential to leach chemicals and rust back into the groundwater as a more conventional constructed pool would.

Fiberglass pools in general act as a natural insulator.

Your filter and heater will potentially run dramatically less than equipment on vinyl/gunite pools.

Depending on the climate and size of the pool, a homeowner can save up to $225.00 per month on their pool maintenance with Fiberglass pools versus other types of pools (vinyl/gunite).

Given the fact that all of us are concerned about our environment, Fiberglass pools are eco-friendly and are already the pool of tomorrow.

Not only do Fiberglass pools use less chemicals and energy, they never need to be re-plastered, nor do they have a liner to replace – thus resulting in fewer disposals in landfills.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I afford my pool?

Owning a pool is easier than you think! In addition to a variety of pricing options, the type of pool, materials, accessories, and landscaping you choose determine the overall cost of the project. Also keep in mind that owning your own pool will help reduce costs of vacationing. Instead of traveling and paying membership dues for a community pool, you can simply step into your backyard for a quick getaway. Having your own pool can keep your kids healthy, active, and entertained at home – and many family pets enjoy pools as well!

Will my pool become my second job?

Maintaining a quality Fiberglass pool actually is a lot easier and less time-consuming than caring for your lawn or your car.

Are there major differences in manufacturing methods of Fiberglass methods?

Yes, you will find major differences in the methods companies use to manufacture pools as well as in the terms of warranties offered. Ask Cassella Design & Build why the products we sell are superior in construction and warranty. When you purchase a Fiberglass pool, you make a sound solid financial investment for years to come!

Do Fiberglass pools only come in white?

No, there are many color options available! Over the past few years there has been a major transition in the Fiberglass marketplace, but some Fiberglass pool companies are now playing catch-up so their quality is not comparable to those companies that have been providing color technology for years. This is an important topic to discuss with Cassella Design & Build.

How long does installation take?

A complete understanding of the design and installation process will give you a better idea of how long it will take. While most Fiberglass pools are completed in under a week, permit delays and weather conditions sometimes make the building process seem longer. No matter the issue, Cassella Design & Build will communicate directly with you to give you an accurate schedule.

Do Fiberglass pools have a bathtub look?

At Cassella Design & Build, we pride ourselves in our installation and decorative finishing of our Fiberglass pool. The end product will be a high-end look rather than the old traditional bathtub look. For example, cantilever concrete on your pool is an important element in changing the appearance of any pool.

I've seen Fiberglass pools that are 30 years old with stress cracks. Will my pool crack?

Fiberglass pools produced 30 years ago will have stress cracks and the bathtub look. Today’s technology provides us with state of the art gelcoats and Fiberglass matting backed by warranties that enable you to enjoy years of enjoyment trouble free. Manufacturers offer Fiberglass pools that last for a lifetime and their warranty is the best in the industry. We’d love to tell you all about it – ask us why!

Is it possible to achieve an 8' depth in a Fiberglass pool?

Fiberglass pools can be up to 9’ in depth. However, nine out of ten families request pools only 6? deep. A 6?-depth deep end provides much more usable swim area for the family and friends.

Is there a lot of repair work associated with a pool?

Proper maintenance and cleaning prevent pools from unscheduled refurbishing. Ninety percent of traditional pool upkeep can be eliminated with Fiberglass pools, including liner replacements and concrete pool resurfacing. Research your pool builder’s work and ask about maintenance of different pool types to get a better understanding of required maintenance.

What will a pool do to my electric bill?

Average estimates show that your utility bill may increase by $50 or less. Compared to the expenses of entertainment, trips to the community pool, gas, food, or vacations, that’s a fraction of the cost.
